School Meals Program(SMP)

Chancen durch Bildung in co-operation with FOCUS is implementing the Project “School Meals Program with School Forest Gardens” (SMP) over a promotion period ending on December 31st 2025. CDB aims at expanding the project next year to more schools in Chitipa and Karonga, and also to the subsequent years, provided corresponding funds can be raised. Improving access to school education in the Chitipa through provision of necessary Equipment and Skills to establish a community owned, self-sustaining SMP in 16 schools of Chitipa District. Of these schools, 8 should be participant schools of the former GIZ Afikepo/NAPE program close to Misuku area, 8 should be new and located within or in the outskirts of Misuku Hills.


The project conducted the Trainings with 16 School Health and Nutrition Teachers and 16 Head teachers on SHN Concept; Tree Planting and Management; Child Protection and Safeguarding; and Forest Gardening and Manure Making and application for 8 schools in Misuku and 8 schools in Chitipa town starting from 6 to 15 December, 2024.


output/ outcomes


  1. Chipwela is one of the schools in Misuku side. It has a running school feeding programme. The school received 150 agroforestry trees and planted in the demonstration plot.
  2. NAMUYEMBA SCHOOL. The school was once in the Afikepo NAPE programme and currently have a running school feeding programme. It properly sustained the continuation of the programme. The school received 80 agroforestry trees which was planted in the school demonstration.
  3. KAPYELA SCHOOL This is one of the schools in Misuku area and has a running school feeding programme initiated by the community. It received 50 agroforestry trees which was planted in the school demonstration plot.
